This logo was designed for the Verna J. Kirkness Institute of Higher Learning, an organization that supports people in finding direction through education. Verna J. Kirkness is a Cree scholar whose work has changed how Indigenous history is taught in schools. The logo draws from the Fisher River, Manitoba community and elements of Verna’s life. It features the wild prairie rose, Manitoba’s provincial flower, shown on books she has written and on the clothing she wears. The river represents her home, and the open book symbolizes education. Other details in the rose design reflect the land and Indigenous culture.
